@ddp, That's not the kind of updates he is talking about.. Programs not Drivers. And you can get all your driver updates delivered to you by setting your windows to update them automatically.

Secunia PSI is extremely good for updating everything except drivers.

It was a media player called potplayer. I've been trying to see if I could find a good player I tried several and it had good reviews.

Best media player are VLC and my personal favourite for stability and audio excellence is KM Player!!!

Never download from the outlet website always go directly to the coders website and download from there - checkit with av and antispyware - check the signature of the file using properties and only then install!

Downloaded the file and checked it with malwarebytes , spyware terminator, spybot and 7 separate antivirus programs and there is nothing found!

You must have got the problem elsewhere!

I have also installed it on a honeypot machine and it hasnt done anything (as yet)!
Also monitoring its network comms (via a specialist firewall monitoring program) and no strange ports opened or activity present!

Kingsoft is a chinese company - i would personally never download any Chinese related software you just dont know what they are up to!

"At the end of the installation process, KingSoft prompts you to install the Softonic Toolbar. If you fail to uncheck the pre-checked box, Kingsoft will install Softonic into your browsers, and re-write your search engine and home page preferences. This is a minor annoyance, and is a common feature found in other free anti-virus installers."

Spot on 2oldGeek they cause more problems than they solve.

If you are going to run one then Microsofts regclean is about the only one that doesnt feck things up.

You ideally need one that backs up the changes before it makes them so you can restore them if something goes wrong.

Even the Venerable Ccleaner has been known to trash a pc's registry.
