AVI2DVD problem

I had an mkv. of a japanese anime with english subtitles. I used avi2dvd to convert it to a dvd format but when i put it on a dvd there was no subtitles!!!!! I think that the subtitles were internal!??

Also i hope this is in the right place cause i'm new here....Thanks!!
