Hi , I just joined and not sure if this is the right section to post this question , but I've tried going through the steps listed when going into a yahoo search and even unplugged the plugs from the modem and turned it off for 8 hours and still no luck getting a new IP . I appreciate any advice from someone who did this .

tried portforward.com ?

you should know the pw and username to your router/modem before starting,
and maybe make record of settings encase it doesn't work and you know what to enter back in.

What is your setup? Are you a wired desktop or wireless laptop?
What exactly are you trying to do that needs an IP change?

Good point, making a static Ip through port forwarding
http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm
Might not be the best solution overall.

If not, could just ask your ISP to change it? :P

The address you get from your ISP is totally different than the one your machine gets in a home network when using a wireless router for example.
If the original poster would respond, I'm sure this can be resolved easily.

I'm wired to a desktop . I'm banned from a couple sites and want to join again and these administrators are very good at tapping your IP . I will check out that website the other member put up in a few days .

That website only helps make your INTERNAL address static, it does nothing to help with what you are asking. Even if you get your ISP to change your address i think you may still need to spoof your MAC address since you are banned.

Can you explain how to do this ? I had a co- worker tell me our Internet provider determines our IP address and I can't just change over right away if that's the case .

Co-worker is right. Whoever you receive your internetz connectivity from gives you 1 address (EXTERNAL) for the wire they plug into your house. Inside the house, when you add a home router/wireless the address is chopped into a few different pieces (INTERNAL) so no matter how many machines you have in your house the data still goes through the EXTERNAL address they give you.
