i purchased a computer and it came on Monday, it said its operating system was windows, it indeed turned out to be Linux. any disc i tried to install(my discs for my wireless internet) won't be run and are all .exe files. i was wondering if anyone could help me with the process of switching my operating system from Linux to Windows so that i may install my internet and just actually use the computer in general. my biggest fear is purchasing Windows, it running at about $130 and my computer not even running it like everything else i put in the drive.

can anyone help me out?

Sorry, but you'll have to buy Windows.

You cannot run Windows programs on Linux. (Maybe with an emulator if there is one. Varnull would know best)

Either that or return it to the person who sold it to you or make them provide (not just install) Windows.

Configure your PC to boot from CD and then boot from the CD. Since at that point, and OS hasn't been loaded yet, the PC will run whatever is sees to load.

You will then partition and format over the Linux installation and install Windows.

The comp will boot any bootable cd assuming the BIOS is set to read the dvd drive first, linux distro's are free well most are anyway, the closest to being windows like would be kubuntu it's kinda vista like, well the menu's anyway,it's quite spiffy & can even run on a 600mhz 512mb ram,4mb graphic dell gx110 mini tower if the graphical animations are turned off, since your keen to get back to windows get another hdd & put windows on it then download the linux iso burn it & repair the grub & hey presto 2 OS's,the beauty of this is if windows is broken..lol..you can still work in linux even recovering data from windows, you could even get more linux distro's & install them so you have 3,4,5 or whatever number of OS's you want, the dell i have has win 2000,Kubuntu 8:10,Ubuntu 8:10,Ubuntu Satanic 8:04 & still deciding what to add to the other two linux Ext3 partitions.

PS:Don't install Ubuntu or Kubuntu 9:10 versions a long with windows there's a number of documented bugs especially the grub they're still working on a fix,it's to do with detecting other OS's,neither distro will detect windows as being there nor will they detect each other or any other linux

PPS:No matter how many linux OS's you install on 1 comp it won't win any browny points from varnull if any version of windows is installed along with them :p
