black screen when opening sims 2

my computer specs cant run the sims 3 so i decided to downgrade and install the sims 2 instead. the game works but sometimes it opens to a black screen and nothing happens. but other times it does work. its like it opens every other time. whenever there is a black screen i usally restart the computer and then press the shortcut again and it does work. i had previously installed the game 2 times. the first of which worked with no problems (except maybe some vertical lines in the graphics, but other then that it worked fine) and the second used to crash after a while. while the game doesnt crash now the black screen thing is annoying.
