I've recently updated most of my pc; I've got a 9600 GSO 384mb coming in the mail -It's just something to hold me over until I shell out for top of the line around Black Friday. The old card was LUDICROUSLY bad for gaming(Geforce 7300).
I'm posting my stats, and hoping folks will post their suggestions for games that will have a good balance of graphics\performance on this hardware. The 9600 was ordered to hold me over until black friday -I'm planning on snagging a top of the line card to replace it, but that's a good ways off.
Here's what I've got right now:
AMD Phenom II 945 3ghz quad core
4gb DDR3 @1333Mhz(Unganged)
Geforce 7300GT w/256mb DDR2(Yes it's a REALLY sh*tty card, lol)
Windows Vista 64bit Service Pack 2 (Free upgrade to 7, yays!)
The interim replacement card (arriving in a day or so) is a Geforce 9600 GSO with 384mb DDR3
I know that everything isn't going to look FANTASTIC on the 9600 GSO, it's an entry level card. I just want suggestions for genuinely good games that will look and run well on it. I'm an offline gamer, so I'm looking for good single player experiences.
I'm not asking for excruciatingly new titles here, just games released in the last couple years that will be fun to play.
Some titles I have tested with my 7300gt:
Crysis (Obviously didn't run fantastically, but good enough to enjoy on minimum settings from start to finish, seems the cpu\ram compensated well enough)
Quake 4 (Older title, ran marvelously with good settings)
Prey (Same engine as above, similar performance)
Dungeons and Dragons Online (High settings, good framerate)
Turok (on medium this actually choked my system a little harder than Crysis on low settings)
Mirror's Edge (Could [barely] run under XP, 7300 can't run it at all under vista64 with the 7300gt)
Portal (Ran well enough)
Left4Dead (I'm not a fan of multiplayer, but well, zombies...)
I figure that providing some titles as reference points might help folks to offer suggestions on games to try out.
Wowsa, can't believe the 9600 just finally arrived. That was really slow shipping! From what I'm seeing on Youtube, I'll likely to be able to enjoy this for at least a good six months before making the move to a high end DX11 beast.
Would've loved a response here, but I guess not. -.-
