Ok, this is from my wife, (her mother thinks the weather is bad because of NASA's rockets) go figure. I play cracked games, as a lot of ppl do. I also buy them. But to charge $60 for a game is ludicrious when your making hundres of millions. I mean how much do they need to make. Anyway, I am on my 4th RMA 8800gtx from EVGA (lifetime support), soooooo, is it possible that a cracked game can crash a video card? There I said it. I personally don't think so, but I thought I'd ask.
Please, no laughing.

Unless no shaders or graphics API calls badly modified, no gpu crashes.

Well, if only game protection is cracked away, and nothing more, there shouldn't be any crashes :)

But if there were, would it destroy a video card, meaning, the drivers are gone and nothing but artifacts? That is what I mean, actually killing the card so it has to be replaced.

It's very hard to say... Usually viruses do not destroy parts. If one didn't have any heat issues, there's also a little chance that the card just met its end under stress.

Thanks, I appreciate your help. I figured the card just dies, coincidentally playing the game.

viruses won't destroy a videocard unless it can rewrite the card's bios.

And I would presume the chances of that happening is slim to none.

i think some are rewriteable as some can change from 1 version to another or activate a disabled core.

i'd say the crack used might contain a virus.apparently star craft 2 is known for causing graphic card crashes or over heating (read an article about it a few weeks back).viruses dont usually destroy hardware but they cant cause problems with software.
btw my mum blames the weather on the hole that man made in the moon.
