Hello! My son has an old Nintendo DS with the old M3 Real cart.
With that system, I was familiar with how to load ROMs, put the sftware on
the MicroSD card and play the games.
Then, the things changed and it seemed that on newer DS models, the carts
were not working, so we did not update the hardware since it seemed he would
not be able to load and play the games he had downloaded over the years.
So, here is the question. He is thinking of buying a 3DS XL, please advise me which card we should be ordering to be used in a 3DS XL.

I would absolutely recommend the Gold R4i 3DS card,it has a very big community and have a team constantly working on and updating them.

well, i think R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe Edition is your best choice.
Use R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe Edition blue card, you can play all ds games on your 3DSXL
Use R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe Edition golden card, you can play 3ds games on your 3DSXL
But the red card just support work on 3DSXL v4.1 - v4.5
So please make sure your 3DSXL has not be updated to the latest firmware.
If your console updated already, then i recommend dstwo instead of R4i Gold 3DS Deluxe Edition, it cannot play 3ds games, but it is the best flashcart which play ds games on 3DS/XL.
