Is the DSi Battery life really that bad?

Basically, the only thing stopping me from trading in my DS lite for a DSi is the battery life issue. I've heard so many horror stories it's a bit unnerving. But is the battery life really that bad?

I have had a PSP-1000 since 2006, and I haven't had many battery problems with it at all. Is the DSi battery life better or worse than the PSP-1000?

How long will the charge last if, for example, I play Mario Kart DS over DS Download play with a few friends on the lowest brightness setting? The second brightness setting? This will probably be my most frequent use for the DS.

Is the DSi battery life really all that bad, or should I hold off until Nintendo gets a better battery?
