Nintendo DS can not read R4 card

Hi

My friend has an R4 Upgrade which I had put some games onto it. It has been working fine for months until now he says all his game have disappeared & he did not delete any of them.
It says on the screen 'There is no DS Card inserted'.
So I put the micro sd card into the removable device & opened up the files on the computer. Some of the games said they were corrupted so I deleted everything & started again. It still said the same thing but after a little while it seemed to work ok but then I tried to put some more games onto the micro sd card & it said 'The disk in Drive E is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?' It wont let me open it.
Any advice please? Thanks
