r4_v1.18_kernel downloaded this kernal
I formatted my microsd [sandisk 2gb NOT sdhc] to Fat32
I extracted the kernel zip file and transferred the files over to the sd card
the _DS_menu.Dat is in the ROOT of the sd card
The R4 is a regular ndsl/nds version.

I am at a loss. it says the ds an't find the menu dat

can you leave a pic of your r4 card so i can know which r4 card do you have, sounds like you didn't use the correct firmware. can you check the site here http://www.dsflashcart.com to see whether you can find your card. is it this one http://www.dsflashcart.com/r4ds-origina...lite-p-269.html

you mean this card : http://www.modchipfactory.com/r4-origin...s-lite-p-7.html ? you can download the latest firmware 1.62 from r4ds.com,unzip it,open the folder and copy the root files into your micro sd card, you can give it a shot !

make sure all the its expanded files are in the root of the sd card
