nintendo ds lite build problems

one of my friends had gotten his ds lite broken by his 4 year old niece. and since we had 2 ds's, we decided to merge the two. everything was going fine until our frankends started having charging problems. i am suspecting a bad fuse, but on both of the ds motherboards, the power light stays on while the screens stay off. is this a blown fuse too? the screens' backlights dont even turn on. how can i fix this?
