No Text showing up in menu r4i 3ds Card

I just purchased an r4i 3ds for my Nintendo 3ds. I installed the WOOD R4 V1.36b Released 2011-09-07 kernel from r4ids.cn. I can access the roms that I have installed on my sd card but I cannot see the names of the games or any text in the menus just the icons for the games. It comes up as a black screen and highlights items in green.
I have screen shots if it helps I just couldn't figure out how to upload them.
If someone could help me figure this out it would be awesome.
