r4i gold HELP!

Hi guys,
I am very new at this, as you will be able to tell lol. I bought a r4i gold card for my 3ds but its driving me insane. How do you save and load the save files? It seems to automatically save by itself, but I dont know how to load the file, the game just starts from scratch. Any help will be MUCH appreciated.

Actually its not saving on its own, it saves the inital game file but doesnt save where youve reached :(
