r4i sdhc version 1.6b, how to update?

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could lend me a hand here. I have a r4i sdhc card for my 3ds. It was working perfectly until I accidentally got my 3ds upgraded to v1.43, barring the r4i card. I've tried downloading the v1.6b kernel and copying the files into the micro sd card, but it still won't work. Any idea how I can update the card?
