R4i Upgrade version, Using Codes to trade

When using the HG game ROM on this, to obtain rare Pokemon to trade to the original games, was working (although black screen occured regularly), then when going into the WIFI section, started getting a blue screen stating error.
Now cannot trade any pokemon to the original games, which is the only reason bought the R4i in the first place.
Anyone know how this can be sorted out??
