I am a relative noob to bluray but do have quite a bit of exp. working with other video formats. My box is set up for HD except don't yet have an HDMI monitor so my connector cable is DVI. I recently installed the following:

LG Black 6X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 6X BD-ROM 4MB Cache SATA Internal Blu-ray Burner 6X Blu-ray Disc Burner & HD DVD-ROM Drive Model GGW-H20L - OEM

I do not yet have a stand alone bluray player for use with my HDTV.

My questions are as follows:

- I have many HDTV recordings on hard drive made using the (now nearly obsolete) nextcom R5000 with directv. Most have been edited using videoredo. They are mpg files, 1280x720, 60 fps mpeg2 etc. What would be the best way to convert (author?) these so they could be burned to bluray? (free software if possible)

- Will a stand alone bluray player play the above noted mpg files if this is the only thing on the disc?
