error reading blu ray disk and And DVD HD

So i have the lastest version of any dvd, im trying to rip a x-men united and Miss march. It keeps showing region cannot be determined and when i try to rip either with img burn or anydvd ripper it shows read errors for both movies. I have switched the blu ray drive and checked to make sure there arnt any scratches. When i posted int the anydvd hd forums they clam its not the program but a defected disk its pretty hard to believe i have a few defected store bought copies that play fine. is that true? has anyone been able to successfully copy these titles?
