Understanding Blu Ray Disc

When I pop in a Blu Ray disc and start watching a movie, there are times when I must pause it to collect a cold beer and some pizza.

Upon my return (if it is too long), the screen shows a logo of some type that says "Universal" and dances slowley across the screen. When I push "play" again, nothing happens. I must stop the entire video and start form the begining and find the chapter where I left off.

I know the logo shows up to reduce the chance of ruining the disc by overheating.

Anyone have any hints? I'm new to the Blu Ray format and don't quite understand its pecularities.

Also a little bar pops up across the bottom with the words "clip" and "bookmark" This may be unique to the LG BD390 I have.
