Im having some problems picking up my local over the airhd channels I can only pick up one or two. I think the problem I may Have is that I have my cable tv and my hook up to pick up local hd channels is all going through the same coaxial cable and it might be conflicting, Is there a way to split the connection without having a cable box?. Or I think Another thing is that I might need an antenna? Can someone tell me what I need?
You need an antenna to receive OTAHD signals. And even with that if the signal is not strong you won't get one. Connect you cable box to HD TV with HDMI or component cable and coinnect your antenna rabbit ears, attic or outdoor antenna with the coax cable to antenna in(HD) Some sets have analog input coax and digital. Choose digital and set your set for digital input. Some cable companies are passing along the local stations without having to use a box also. After connected properly rescan for the channels that weren't coming in.
There is no need for an antenna if you already have basic cable. Make sure your TV is set to pick up cable channels not ANT or Over The Air (OTA) channels in the menu. Why? Local (free-digital) HD channels over cable are picked up using a QAM tuner, the same as other digital cable channels, not an ATSC tuner.

I don't know fully what this means but you should only plug your coaxial cable from the wall to your tv.
