So, I downloaded a .cso file off the net. I also have psp iso compressor.
I chose to uncompress it, but noticed the compression levels were still available for me to choose.
Do I have to know what level of compression my .cso is to revert it properly? Is the "use NC" option, where I found NC stands for No Compression, of any use whatsoever? This program has a bad interface...

Why do you want to decompress it? Doesn't it work as a .cso?
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

csos are sow and lagy. I mostly play at home, so I don't need much on my memstick. I played crisis core as a cso and the intro vid froze at a point for a bit, twice at the same point aswell, as if it was programmed to!

That sounds more like a problem with your PSP, normally csos have the same speed than iso files, have you tried setting a different speed? Press select while in XMB and set the ingame speed higher. You might get a lower battery life, but that doesn't really matter if you only play at home.

I had been privy of those settings and I had set my psp for speed vs battery, for the reason you mentioned. But I don't think sth is wrong with my psp. I have seen somewhere online that cso's are slower, are u sure about this?
Oh and when u say battery life, u mean how much battery lasts with these settings, right? They don't affect the battery long term, reducing its capacity overtime, do they?

psp slim (v1), 5.00 m33-6, game and xmb set to 333mhz. sandisk green 8gb and sony 4gb, all original and magicgate supported.
been playing crisis core UNDUB cso with NO lags. did a cso compression with level 5 (i think).
@eisherz. there IS a speed difference with iso and cso; i've noticed it first hand. BUT it depends on how compressed the file is.
ps2: v7 scph-39001 - independence exploit - hdloader 0.8c - maxtor 300gb hdd
(+[__]%) psp slim ta-085v1: 6.60 PRO B10
wii (powered by bootmii/priiloader): 4.1u - d2x v10beta53-alt (base 56) - configurable usb loader v70r51/devolution r188 - wd scorpio black 7200rpm 320gig w/ ams venus ds2 enclosure
got a whole lot more to list . . .

Anyway ppl, we're kinda missing the point here. The questions are:
Do the compression lvl and use NC options affect uncompressing, in psp iso compressor ?
Do you have to know what compression lvl a cso file is to uncompress it with said program?

i never touched iso compressor. umdgen is my preferred program. doesn't matter what level the cso is, it will decompress it to the original iso format.

I bet that's true. I'd like to hear it from some1 using it, however(not that I'm not thankful for any piece of info given thus far).
