How did you hook it up? Which interface does the drive use? What do you mean by 'nothing to come up' exactly?

I hooked it up to the mother board. The drive came from another computer just like mine. The computers both are running vista and this drive is a segate.. Nothing came up under the device manager or storage management..

You plugged both the power connector and the data connector in? Does it show up in the BIOS?

when you first turn the PC on, either you'll see a list of checks being carried out or a big logo. If you see the logo, press the key it says enters setup (usually delete), and disable the fullscreen logo [typically under advanced settings].

If you already see the list, you will be seeing the hard disks on there. Look for a new line that hasn't appeared before. For a Seagate you will be seeing a figure that looks something like this:

ST123456AS
(but not these numbers)

What sammorris meant (if I may interpret) is what kind of connect is being used. As in is it an IDE cable (a very wide, thin, usually gray cable) or a SATA cable (smaller and usually red cable). It's important that you specify because if you have IDE cable you run into this big thing of having the "jumpers" in the configuration - as well as the right drives set to slave/master. There are other types of hdd's but usually IDE or SATA is found.

mmm Not sure what else I can contribute at this time until you get back to us. (if you are completely puzzled by the concept of IDE, SATA ect just post what kind of computer you have and we'll be able to look it up for you)
