I've ordered all the parts and hope to have them soon to begin my first build. The only part left I need is the memory. Are any of these sets from Best Buy comparable or compatible with the system I mentioned? Any suggestions on which one I should go with? Thanks!
I would cancel the ASRock or return it. Its a budget asus mobo prone to reliability issues.
I would have gone for 1 TB Caviar Black and a 500 GB WD. The 1 TB are rock solid, the 1.5 TB arent super reliable at this point. I about another 6 months or so, I would probably say different.
The case is a rip off imo and the 80 mm fans are subpar. 120 MM is prettym uch the standard these days, and it doesnt look like you can mount 120s in place of the 80s.
And if your looking for a media center PC this is hugely over kill. This is a pretty high end cpu for media center needs. A core 2 Duo would be sufficient for blue-ray playback so long as your not doing alot of multitasking, and a 5750 would be ample as well.
As for the memory, the Kingston DDR3 packs is good, but the Corsair is better.
bigtalker, try out newegg for price comparison. i dont think you will get much for your money at best buy. i believe core i7 (if you still want to go this route) has triple channel memory. look for a 3- or 6- gig kit, corsair are nice but can be expensive, ocz is not always fully compatible but otherwise are pretty reliable (and they definately give you a hard time about rebates) and crucial, esp. ballistix seem to get real good reviews. good luck
