Building my first unit and running into some problems, heres my line up.Asus P7P55, i5 750, 2G DDR3 KingstonRam, now as for the rest, reuseing from old system.
Now the problem is when I turn it on, and goto the bios the computer turns off shortly after. HD is an older WD 250g sata about 4 years old, also useing an older ATI video card. I will down the road upgrad the v card but just short on the cash for now.
Its an Ultra 650W. As for the fan on the CPU, like I said this is new for me sor 2 of the posts I turned 180deg when should have only been 90, so those 2 do seem a little loose. After work I will try and take the fan off and re install it, I think I may need a new fan now the 2 posts may be broken.

Remove the cooler and unlock the pins on the cooler. There are two plastic lugs on each pin that will be tightly together. If one of them is bent at a right-angle due to the cooler being incorrectly installed, then they can usually be bent back.
The PSU is not ideal, but shouldn't theoretically cause any problems. If you can get in the BIOS long enough to check the CPU's temperature (it will be in a section marked health status, or something similar) - do so, and see what the temperature is.
Looks like that did it for the power issue. I took the board out and was able to fix the two pins with out removing the other two. Powers up no problem. Now my next issue is that I am new to building pcs and want to have the pride that I was able to get this thing going without having to take it to the nearest shop.
I am using a old hard drive that has XP on it from an older unit. I did purchase Win7. How do I reformat and install the OS? Should it pick up the cd right from the DVD drive or do I need to install other drvers first? How, when the the DVD will not read?
Set the BIOS to boot from the CD. Win 7 is good about having most drivers to see the HDD. After booting to the CD just follow the steps. MS made it super easy this time.
Thanks for the help smmorris & jjziman, it was easy. Just needed some help being pointed in the right direction. I did not worry about saving any files as the harddirve did not have anything on it that I really needed. Now with windows 7, when I went to do the install, it asked me if I wanted to also keep the files from the older windows version, so I did. Now when I turn the PC on it is asking me which operating system do I want to use. Of course I choose Win 7, but its a bit of a pain. I will try an see if I can do it in bios, but not to good with knowing bios very well.
