I am building my first computer from scratch with completly new parts. I have installed all the hardware, booted up the computer and get no signal on my monitor. I am using a asus P7P55 LX motherboard, and a gigaabyte nvidia geforce 8400 gs 512mb gddr2 graphincs card. with 8gb ram and i intel core i5 processor. I am still learning so what am i doing wrong. I know the card is working because i have tried it in my daughters pc. Do i need to install something like drivers for card or motherboard. some sort of bios if so how? when i cant see anything. by the way the motherboard does not have no intergrated graphics so i rely completly on the seperate graphics card. Any help would be much appreciated.

did you plug in the extra connector from the psu to the motherboard? does the videocard need extra power from the psu? does the hd light flash at all?

i cant find no more connections on the video card. at the moment there is no wires from the video card to the psu or the motherboard. I dont think it needs extra power. the fan is going on the videocard if that helps

how about from psu to motherboard as usually 2 connectors need to be plugged in? try clearing the cmos as have found that to work sometimes to kickstart a stubborn system.

sorry to sound a bit stupid but when you say clearing the CMOS what do you mean exactly. By the way hd light just turns on and is green. There is two wires connected from the psu to the motherboard

read the motherboard manual about clearing the cmos which is the permanent memory of the computer til operating system loads. green light is usually power light so recheck your connections. disconnect all cables to the drives. reseat the ram & especially the videocard. any beeps from the motherboard when turned on?
