My home network is pretty simple, I have an HP W7 64 bit computer that I use as a server throughout my home. I have an Actiontec router provided by Verizon to run FIOS at 50Mbps down 25 up. My PC runs through the router to a gigabit network switch that in turn carries signal to several rooms through CAT6a cable. The media player(s) at the other end are Boxee Boxes. While the boxee boxes have proved to be all that I needed unfortunately they have gotten out of the media player business, so I'm left to build my own HTPC.

I'm currently bidding on a Gateway SX2803-25e that I think I can get fairly cheap. I want to replace the Boxee in my mancave with this HTPC. My mancave has a fairly nice 5.1 A/V system with a 1080P 58" Panny plasma.

The PC has no installed OS but does have the Power Cord, Keyboard and Mouse and an
O/s License Key

Can I just load Openelec to run XBMC and connect the PC to my network? I find that networking with my primary PC and its W7 64 bit OS is a nightmare. Will Openelec work with my primary PC so I can access its files?

I'm sorry about the basic questions, but I've never built a HTPC system and am quite ignorant.
