okay, hello i hope someone can help me. i have recently upgraded my graphics card on my a1330n.

Athlon 64 (S) 3800+ 2.4 GHz

*
2000 MT/s (mega transfers/second)
*
Socket 939

i got a used geforce 8800 gts oc and i put in the new power supply(585watt) and put the thing in. it worked. but it sucks theres screen tearing and it has lag.

So i research and realize my computer sucks. my ghz is too low. and i think i have to replace my mother board, gpu and cpu? (is this correct?)

i was wondering if someone could point in me in the right direction on what to get. Everytime i step into a thread everything seems like mumbo jumbo.

I was also wondering if I could stick these new components into the tower im using?

and would i have to get a new windows os?

would i be able to reuse my old dvd/cd/hard drives/current os?

any help would be GREAATTTLY APPRECIATED. i have been wading through threads and threads and i have given up. usually im fairly good at figuring things on my own, but im at the end of the rope.

im really hoping that this would cost me $300-$400. and that i would be able to play call of juarez and bioshock on decent settings without screen tearing and lag.

i also have 2 gigs of ram.

THANK YOU in advance. any and all help would very much appreciated.

No matter how old the parts, you should be able to view forums. If all your drivers are working, it is probably that used overclocked card.

Your current windows is probably locked to your current hardware, and would have to be replaced with a mainboard upgrade.

Your screen lags because you haven't installed graphics drivers properly. It has nothing to do with the age of your graphics card. Depending what size monitor you use, the 8800GTS is enough to run the games you mentioned on decent settings.
You don't say what brand the PSU is, but 585W suggests it's probably an HEC in which case it will need to be replaced immediately, as cheap low quality PSUs are extremely dangerous as they do not have overload protection, and can randomly short out and catch fire without warning.
Upgrading your CPU is highly recommend as it's an old single core, but a new motherboard and RAM will be required (you can keep the graphics card). HP cases may or may not allow for upgrades to new tech, but they will certainly not offer sufficient cooling for high-end components, so you should really be buying a new case:
Your old hard drive and DVD drive will work in a new system, but you will probably need to reinstall windows.
Here's a recommended list of parts for a reasonable budget - if you can spend more than this, or you need to spend less than this, post back and it can be adjusted.

It would certainly run it, how well would depend what settings you want to use, which version of the 8800GTS you have, and what size your monitor is. I think you'd do alright up to moderate detail at a lower resolution. That PSU is enough to add a new graphics card with though, and in a month or so's time we should be seeing some new graphics cards which will offer staggering performance increases. Keep an eye out :)
