I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but it's the closest for where I thought this would fit.

I'm considering getting me a new laptop. (I've laways heard building a laptop is not reasonable, but it would not scare me if someone thinks I should consider that. I'm not even sure if you can by laptop components as you can desktops though.)

Anyway, what should I consider in processors, ram, and such. I probably want a faster PC than I will need, so that's why I'm asking here. I use my laptop for a little bit of everything except gaming. I even dock it into an external monitor so that I use it similar to a desktop at times. I use Autocad some, often burn DVDs, encode video files, typical internet surfing with downloading and uploading, as well as typical microsoft office programs. It's very common for me to multi task with my laptop where I download something, have excel open writing a macro, email open, and possibly something else all at the same time.

With this background, what processor types and/or speeds should I consider. I'm fairly certain I will only look a 4GB RAM options. I have not yet decided if I will look for a blue ray optical drive or a DVDRW drive. Any thing else I need to consider before I start looking?

Don't know if it's that wise - or indeed possible, as you say - to build your own laptop (in terms of the components), but even if it is, I'd imagine for the money you'd save, it would probably be worth just buying one and saving the hassle.

The obvious choice to make is the new 2nd-gen Intel processors, though, in terms of getting bang for buck, and something in a laptop that can do decent graphics for not much money. All depends on your budget, of course...
