I've started to put together a parts list for a desktop pc that is going to be used for video streaming to other computers in my house, maybe have a virtual box on it, and a web and home file server.
I just need help on a couple of parts, and maybe your suggestions.

The list:
Motherboard- Intel BOXDG45ID LGA 775 Intel G45 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard $90
CPU- intel core 2 quad $50
Psu- ?
Ram- 8gb 4x2 gb ddr2 800mhz $160
DVD drives- 2x Asus 24x DVD burner $40
Hard drives- 2x HITACHI Deskstar 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 $240
Case- antic three hundred $60
Os- Linux ?

Total = ?

Anybody got any improvements?

learn on a junker first .. especially if you are going to expose it to the internet.. are you going to run a 64 bit os?.. if not don't waste the money on more ram than you can use... servers typically don't need a lot.. my webserver ran quite happily on 256 for years even with 30 or 40 users online at the same time... if you intend streaming video to the internet chances are your domestic asymetric home adsl/cable will not be good enough and your isp will be all over you within days.

IF you intend streaming chances are you will do better with a full on unix setup.. not that I ever bothered after getting 4 copyright infringement notices within 24 hours. http://oav.net/mirrors/video-streaming-servers.html

I use a Western Digital Live Plus Media player and stream video to my laptop. I have a dual core 2.2 g processor and 4g ram which works just fine wireless.
