My 4830 just stopped working with no post at all. I used the intergrated vga and it booted up but the 4830 wont even show up under device manager. I did the ati driver update and it only updated the 2100 intergrated. the 4830 has 1 red light coming out and the fan spins but its sometimes loud-quiet-loud-quiet.. Its weird. I tried my older 3650 and that fan wouldnt even spin half of the time and even with the vga there was no post. Is the problem my motherboard? or PSU (its a 400w corsair so I doubt it) or is my 4830 dead? Im thinking the pci-e slot is dead (if possible) cause everything else works completely great. no problems besides the GFX?

fan speed change + single red light = PCIe failure I think.

GREAT!! (well not really)... was hoping my 50$ MOBO was the problem rather than the 109$ 4830 but, Now I need to replace my mobo...
Its weird because It wont even post without the 4830 or if I use my 3650. I HAVE to have my 4830 in the PCI-E slot to get a post from my intergrated graphics...
If I dont use the 4-pin PCI power cable I get 2 red lights if that helps. I only use this computer for movie watching to my HDTV so ati 2100 is fine for now but the 4830s fan is stuck on like 75%..LOUD...
Thanks and can you recommend a good cheap am2+ motherboard?

one more thing.. can a RAM slot also die by itself? because one of my ram sticks just stoped working around the same time this gfx error occured.

yes, 2 red lights = power not connected, 1 red light = board failure I think.
It's possible a RAM slot could fail as well as PCIe. It's less common with AMDs but I don't see why not.

Some PCs will boot with no graphics card installed. Assuming you already have network control enabled, you should be able to use the PC for something.

Well, as a direct replacement I suppose, but it doesn't allow you to upgrade to newer CPUs should you want to.

Ill most likely never upgrade this pc.. its pretty much my secondary media pc, but just incase what would be a good cheap am3 mobo?
and I was thinking maybe my 4830 needs more than the 400w corsair I have. just another possible reason. i doubt it though

Not at all, a 400W CX can power a 4890 with an adapter.

I just got and installed this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186151
Im getting the same problem, my 4830 has 1 red light and abnormal fan movement. the OS wont even recognize it in device manager. The good news is that it will boot with the 3650 and no GFX card at all. I just sent an RMA email to sapphire to see if I can get a full replacement. Theres supposed to be a 2 year warranty so I should be good.
(just to be alittle more sure, do you think its the 4830 or still some other factor like the PSU being faulty and not being able to power it.

could potentially have been damaged by bad mobo.

Hmmm... that was one of my thoughts... bad pci-e slot causes bad GPU that was in bad pci-e... so maybe the new motherboard was needed.... hope thats the case.

The fact the 3650 didn't work before but now does is what made me think that.

Yeah, that does make sense. So does the red light on the 4830 mean either pci-e is dead or card is dead? because Im almost 100% the pci-e isnt dead on the brand new board I just installed. (Switching motherboards can be a B**** =/ )

There are three or four LEDs on some cards, two on others.
For a two LED card, first LED is card/interface fault, second LED is power fault. for 3/4 LEDs, the first and last are card/slot faults, the middle one two should be power faults.
