Assuming samsung and dell are the most durable monitors that will last I might want to get one. If I am wrong give me suggestions.

This monitor is not for me.

It is not gaming, mostly business.
My father had a dell 17" monitor that currently broke (lasted around 5 years and the power button does not work).
I need to find him a new good monitor. He is asking for a 22" and maybe 20".

Budget is up to 200-250.

Not gaming; all for maps and business, mostly reliability and durability so that it can last over 5 years without any problems such as power button breaking and without display problems such as flickering.

His PC is a dell so he wants a dell monitor mostly. Giving some dell monitor suggestions will be appreciated. If other brand/model monitors would be better please suggest any.

Ive got an AOC 23 inch LCD moniter works fine.only had it for 5months and havnt had 1 problem and it came with a 3year warrenty.just depends how much your willing to pay.the more you pay the longer the warrenty (some places might give you an extended warrenty for a fee).if you get any moniter with a 5year warrenty and it breaks your safe.

There is no such thing as a trustworthy screen; even the best (LG) die from time to time. dell does not make monitors; they just buy the cheapest monitors from others, at a price that forces the maker to cut quality. Dell would be the last place I looked for a good screen.

I would go with an LG, with a long warranty, and maybe an extended warranty on top of that.

LG, like Samsung, are a middle brand. Good enough, but the best brands are probably Iiyama, Dell and HP. Of course, no brand is 100% perfect

LOL...Dell and HP are brand names, but they don't make monitors! The LCD panel inside is always made by someone else (LG if you are lucky), and the only thing dell or HP make are the cases and the control boards...and the control boards always seem to fail!

Dell and HP don't make monitors. They just don't make the panels. Very few monitor brands do make the panels. Acer, Asus, Viewsonic, NEC and countless other popular brands all use other peoples' panels. They still make the monitors. Control board failures are far more common with cheaper brands, hence why buying from proper brands like Dell and Iiyama is a good idea.

Except Dell is a cheaper brand (they have higher-end lines, but those are just rebranded LG and Samsung)...and Iiyama is a tiny little firm that does not even sell to most of the world...you can't even buy them from Amazon! To be fair, I honestly don't know if Iiyama makes good quality screens...no one within 2500mi sells them!

If you buy an LG screen, it will be all LG...really the only reasons to buy any other brand is for a really low discounted price, or if you need VESA mounting (LG does not seem to like VESA).

Mind explaining where you heard this? It's false. The Ultrasharp lines do not have equivalents in brands like LG and Samsung. Only top-tiers like HP actually produce displays with the same functionality. Like I said, they don't make the panels but they do make the monitors.
