Hi, Guys its time for me to build a new computer and I just want to double check everything here as I always have before building.
I have an existing computer which I built in 08 that I am going to just take out the mobo, cpu, ram, gpu and main drive. Blu ray drive, 5 other hard drives for storage will stay the same.
So here is what I am thinking, let me know if this is overkill or if there is a better alternative. I am kind of confused as to where the state of graphics cards are and which ati card competes with the gtx 570.
here is what I do with the computer, general surfing, uploading pictures, photohoshop, mild gaming...son plays minecraft, and I record Football games and tv programs via a hauppauge tv tuner card using beyond tv and video redo to encode taking out the commercials. So the most stressfull thing I do with the computer is record and encode HD..I encode mpeg2 HD clips to H.264 files and am looking for something faster than my q9650 cpu currently.
so again, any advice is welcome. Am I overspending on the board and graphics card? is there a better cpu for me, an i7 maybe? and if everything here is a good fit just to double check it will all jive nicely right? thanks in advance.
Don't worry about posting your question there as well, just make sure it's on topic.
I don't know enough about specific gpus/cpus to comment on your questions regarding ati comparison and video editing, sorry. Ivy bridge is the successor of sandy bridge cpu line though, might be important to you to have the latest components.

thanks.
I wonder if I go with an i7 ivy bridge if it would make more sense.
I like the motherboard, worried it only has 6 sata inputs though, i have 6 sata drives plus the disc drives so I really need 8
Not sure if I need the power of the gtx 570 though, I think step down might be just fine.
If you're doing a lot of hd video editing, an i7 may indeed be worthwhile.
As for SATA ports, you could always get a PCI-e to SATA card to expand it - I don't think you'll find an intel mobo with more than 6 native sata ports.
