anytime you have a computer that won't bootup properly, I always do a chkdsk c: /f. This will fix any system file corruption.

But also the only time I've had a BSOD for no reason at all, and the hard drive was not damaged or corrupted, I had a motherboard that failed. But you would get input/output errors.

You can try booting up your computer with a linux livecd, this is an operating system that will run from a bootcd. This livecd is a good way to test your hardware. A good small linux livecd is gparted, it will let you check your hard drive partitions. If the linux livecd runs fine on your computer, than it's a good chance the hard drive is corrupted, doing a chkdsk will usually fix this.

Many people blame the hard drive on these types of problems and try to reinstall windows. But the hard drive is usually always good.

When does it say unrecoverable program? When your booting to the linux boot cd? What flavor of linux did you choose? Are you sure you boot to the CD?

If theres a hard drive problem, the best thing to do is not use the drive at all. Buy a new hard drive, and once you have a working system, then plug the broken hd in and grab the data you need of of it quickly.

Download, burn and then when the PC is starting up hit F8. Choose to boot form your C/DVD ROM.

You could have a damaged MBR which needs repairing. If so then you can try this.

Quote:
1. Restart your computer with the Windows XP Setup disk in the CDROM drive.

2. If you are prompted to press a key to start the computer from CDROM, do so quickly. Otherwise it may try to boot from the hard drive.

3. After a few minutes, you'll see a prompt to press the R key to start the Recovery Console.

4. When Recovery Console starts, it will prompt you to enter a number corresponding to the Windows XP installation that you need to repair. In most cases, you'll enter "1" (which will be the only choice). If you press ENTER without typing a number, Recovery Console will quit and restart your computer.

5.Enter your Administrator password. If you don't enter the correct password, you cannot continue.

6.At the Recovery Console command prompt, type fixmbr and then verify that you want to proceed.

hi mate i used ubuntu which got me into pc so i moved everything i needed off one hard drive onto the other which i then plugged out of system so that left me just the one hd with the operating system on..anyway try,d a full recovery but it just put a new system over the last one which was conflicting with each other, so i deleted the partition and reload the system recovery,, looked to have installed ok but when the system has rebooted it comes up "invalid system disk" disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter" so i dont no what to do as this stage.. cheers again guys
