I had my processor overclocked at one time, but i reinstalled Windows a couple days ago and it returned all my settings back to Default. I can no longer get on the website i had my settings posted for me. Is there anyone on here familiar with overclocking an Intel Q9550 that could help me?

i have one on a GA-EP45-DS3R mobo. and have had it from 2.83 stock all the way up to 4.12ghz(stable). what are you having a issue with? what type of mobo do you have and what kind of OC are you wanting?

well i have a program that came with the the MOBO called the EPU6 engine. were you can just point and click and it does like an instant power setting and it has a "turbo" overclock mode. I highly doubt it's anything extreme. but I found out today that my MOBO disc doesn't work with the Windows 7 i installed today. =[

Try these settings.

Quote:
Reboot your computer and go into setup and make changes to only the steps mentioned, leave everything else on Auto or their defaults settings.

Once you are in setup choose AiTweaker from the top and then make the following adjustments.

1. Set Ai Overclock Tuner to ?manual.?

2. FSB Frequency: Here you might have to make several adjustments to discover you processors maximum frequency. To put things into perspective it works like this. The clock multiplier on your processor is 8.5 so for every increment of 1 that you raise the FSB you will increase your processor by 8.5 MHz. So to get your processor to overclock to 3.4 GHz you would have to set this to 400. Since your processor is a C1 stepping processor we will start below that then over time raise it in small increments to your processors maximum stable setting. I estimate that your processor should be stable at 3.35 GHz so that will be your first goal. So set your FSB to 395.

3. PCIe Frequency should be at 100.

4. Set FSB Strap to North Bridge to 266 Mhz.

5. Set CPU Voltage to 1.275V. This setting might also need some increasing to stabilize your processor, or if all well decreasing. A C1 stepping processor will need higher voltage than an EO stepping so be prepared to also increase this setting in small increments.

6. Set Dram Voltage to 2.10. It?s unlikely that you will need to increase this one ever again.

7. Make certain that CPU margin Enhancement is set to ?Optimize.?

That all the settings here everything else should be left as is.

Now at the top go to Advanced and choose CPU Configuration.

1. Set C1E to disabled. (this one can be turned back on after the overclock if you choose to. I always leave it off but on new boards that?s not an issue.)
2. Max CPUID Value Limit?Disabled
3. Intel Virtualization Tech?Disabled
4. Intel Speed Step Tech---Disabled (this one can be turned back on after the overclock if you choose to. I always leave it off but on new boards that is not an issue.)

and here is the man that will help you find your goal. he has both the board and the CPU, and has a far great more amount of knowledge about this than myself. Soph will get it right for you.

Did you set your memory strap to 266 MHz?

If so then raise your FSB to 400 and then slowly work up from there.

BTW, you're going to have raise your vcore to at least 2.36 to start or it will crash.

Prox

Forget moving your FSB to 400 I just noticed that you have a C1 stepping. Move it up from 333.3 MHz to 375 MHz. That should be workable.

Sorry and I did mean 1.26v. Must have been a type-o. In the first set of settings I had you set it to 1.275v which might a be a little higher than you need for starts. You can always raise it later if you detect some instability. Let me know how it turns out. Got go to sleep for now.
