I am looking to upgrade the processor and according to the manufacturer of my computer the two processors I can use are listed below. The question I have is which one is the fastest? Thanks in advance.

Pentium D 800 series Smithfield core up to 3.2 GHz
Pentium 4 Prescott core up to 580 and 670

Motherboard is this
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu...ct=1847632#N526

Operating System is Windows XP Professional 32 bit

I have 4 sticks of this ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145505

Video card is this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150640

Going to install this solid state drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227956

Going to upgrade the Power Supply to this to support the new CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...-_-17139026-L0G

I'm not entirely sure which CPU is currently in there. If you could help me pick the better of the ones I previously listed that would be great. Were having problems when streaming 1920x1080 video where the video is extremely choppy. Is that a problem with not enough ram or cpu power? Once again thanks for your help.

the ram you listed is ddr but the motherboard uses ddr2. get faster ram. get better videocard as i think that is near bottom of line for videocards especially for 512meg. you can't access all 4 gigs of ram because you are using 32bit xp so get 64bit win7. don't bother with the ssd drive for that computer.

Thanks for all the advice. What about using Windows Ready Boost to make up for the lack of ram? Also the memory I listed earlier was for a different computer. I'm actually using this ram. Sorry for the mix up I really appreciate all your advice.

readyboost has some effect on computers running less than 2gb.any more than that and it is pretty much a waste of time.like ddp said,i would install win 7 and then tweak it to run faster.like i said, the biggest limiting factor here is that your machine is a single core processor.with the money you want to spend, have you looked into a used dual core or something similar?

Out of the CPUs I listed above this is the dual core I could upgrade to
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321141609181?ss...984.m1438.l2649

This is the single core I could upgrade to
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Prescott-...337ce8f495#rwid

As for memory I could get faster memory by getting this
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200932157924?ss...984.m1438.l2649

What do you recommend out of these upgrades? Another thing I forgot to mention is that the PCI Express slot is only PCI Express 1.1 and the card supports 2.0. Could that be the factor that is causing the choppiness in the videos. Once again thanks for all the advice.

the 840 dual core looks good. right now the choppy video is more likely caused by your processor.

go with the 840 as is a dual core according to this intel link. http://ark.intel.com/compare/27514,2751...20,27521,27522,
get a better videocard with at least 1gig of ram as version 2 cards are backward compatible with version 1 slots. might have to get a higher wattage psu but don't get it from hp, get it from your local computer store.
