My parents got me a Sony Vaio NW Series laptop about a week ago, and I want it to be able to run games well. Is it possible for me to just upgrade its processor/video card so I can run games well, or will I have to buy a new laptop?

processor maybe, but not graphics. Laptops can't play games, essentially. If you want a PC for playing games, buy a desktop. Gaming laptops are horrifically expensive and have almost no battery life (which makes them somewhat redundant)

Some laptops do have upgradable video...but if it is upgradable, then it probably has something decent to start with.

Do know that any CPU upgrades are not going to be a walk in the park...you will have to disassemble most of the laptop to get at the CPU; assuming it is a replaceable (socketed) chip.
