I have a pavilion a6244n , 4g ram, 400w corsair, and I just put in Sapphire Radeon HD 4850 and I have a realtex sound software. It does not look like their is a realtex sound card in their so I am thinking that this is part of the system. What I'm thinking of upgrading to a sound card. Would this a improvement or am I good with What I have?

Realtek sound is built into the motherboard. It is fine for MP3s and movies, but for gaming it can potentially cause problems. If you want a cheap, but decent sound card that can play games consider an Audigy SE from Creative. Be advised that these only support Windows XP, however (do not read the marketing info, creative lie about this). If you want a proper sound card, consider an X-Fi Extreme Gamer (NOT the Extreme Audio)

Thanks for the info. I've got this realtex hooked up to my sound system in my living room and large LCD TV. I just do not want to give up the move audio for movies these up grades will still have digital? I will do some checking but I will appreciate your input.

Yeah the X-Fi cards have digital. The Audigy SE doesn't.

One other question. I have this system running through my Yamaha rx-v661 and it decodes dts and all the other sound modes for movies. Will this card improve the sound overall music, games, and dvd sound?

well, both onboard sound and add-in cards support that, it's mainly just less interference you're getting.
