Hello,

I just replaced my motherboard, and decided to do some upgrades all around. I was thinking of getting 2 new 80GB hard-drives, and RAIDing them together as a 160GB.

Would it be better to install the OS on one 80GB, and install the second HDD after everything was working? Or do I install everything together at once?

Does the 2nd HDD need the OS installed as well?

Premature thanks to anyone that helps, I'm just getting comfortable on PC upgrades, and I found some really helpful people on here before.

why do you want to set up the two drives in a striped (RAID 0) array? unless you are doing video editing or something to that extent, there's really no point in setting up your system drive in a RAID 0 setup. Striped disks are usually set up for media drives that are used for situations that require very fast read and write speeds.

Rather than do a RAID 0 array, for a system drive it makes much more sense to do a mirror (RAID 1) array. As the name implies, both drives are 100% mirrored (but only shows up as one single drive in windows), so if one drive fails you do not lose any data at all, because the same data is on the other drive.
