Let's say you have the choice to buy between an asus, Sony and Mac. They both have the same specs but of ofcourse the price is not. What would you buy? the notebook must be good enough to do everything even game and a good battery. Which one will last in the long run?

I wouldn't trust any of those in the long run. Asus has terrible quality in general, Mac uses nVidia chipsets, so you have maybe 3 years of life, and Sony...well...Sony is barely acceptable when they have a monopoly on a device (I know the PS3 does not have a monopoly on games, but it does have a monopoly on being a PS3).

If I really had to choose, I would go with the most Mac; it would be easy to sell that so I could buy a quality notebook.

As we said, forget the Sony. Second thing to point out, you want to game, and have good battery life. You cant have both.

Do you have to have mobile gaming? If say,for example, your a college student, your best option would be to drop at the least, $1K of that $2K into a desktop, if not more, and use that for gaming. Then use a netbook or notebook for taking notes and such in class.

Plus the notebook will be outdated just a few months after you get it, and your stuck with what you get. With a desktop you can upgrade as needed. So maybe you can give us more insight in to your needs/use and we will be better able to advise you on what to do, but of the two, with out question the Dell is better.

The Dell is much better all round than the Sony. The graphics chip is faster, it's more reliable (mobile geforce chips only last a year or two before they have to be replaced), the difference in CPU power is minute, and the screen is more compact, so will look sharper than the one on the Sony.
