I just bought a new 16GB iPhone 3GS and I'm wanting to jailbreak it. I have done some research in to this and followed Thisthis guide to make my own firmware. When I load the firmware in to the PwnageTool it says its not a valid firmware. I used version 3.0 of the PwnageTool as that was the only one available on Newzbin.
I then downloaded a program called blackra1n and this installed 2 apps, cydiua & rock. I'm not familiar with rock, but is the cydia app the free replacement for itunes store? Does this mean I have now jailbroken the phone as it only taken 30 secs?
Also, I tried to download a pre modded firmware and just using itunes to update to this, but it just sticks on "preparing the iphone for restore" and then fails with a unknown error after about 5 mins.
