Ok I have a bit of a challenge for you experts. I rekon I can do this but having a few hiccups along the way..

I have an iPhone 3g I need to get the user data off of, this phone has never been previously connected to my computer, nor do I have access to any computer that the phone has ever been connected to. and of course, the phone has an unknown password.

So here is what I am going to do:
Boot into DFU
Jailbreak the phone
start phone normally
run iexplorer or similar
export the keychains file
either decrypt or delete the keychains file
reboot phone, dump all files onto PC via iexplore
etc

So I need a jailbrekaing method that DOESN'T simply build me a firmware and tell me to restore through itunes because all my data will also get wiped, I tried redsn0w but the problem with that was, when I loaded 4.2.1 everything seemed to go fine until the program just crashed with a 233 unable to allocate resource error (tried different versions of the software - got same message)

also I don't know what the firmware version its running currently is either.. so I have to either trial and error every firmware that is compatible with this phone or assume an upgrade to 4.2.1 would work without data loss.

So any help in how to jailbreak would be appreciated, as its an older phone I think there are probably more simple ways than reds0w, but I need to be sure they don't rely on having an itunes backup available.
