I am currently serving on a ship and our media player has decided to die on us. We would like to upgrade and have some sort of wifi media server set up. So that we can watch media on our main tv screen, or to watch/download movies, etc to our laptops, psp?s, ihpones, games consoles etc. for the wifi and the server security, both need to be policed by a system admin. To prevent people from illegally accessing the server, to stop people from deleting the files (files to be ?read only?) or adding files that not have been virus checked. The system must not be reliant on the internet. As we do not have internet in our mess deck. We have a budget of £400 and the system must be user friendly to set up and use. As none of us are experts in computers.

Can anyone give us some suggestions on what we need and what would be best for our situation.
