25min HQ video only 60mb?? How??

I have been downloading and watching Japanese Anime shows that are not available here in the US, and have came across some series where the whole thing is only like 2gb or less and most of these are around 25 episodes. After checking each individual episode, I notice that there not more than 60mb. Also they are in HD quality, my question is what program are they using, and what encoder are they using? I would like to know so I can re-encode all of my backups I have on my HDD.
