Convert & Compress Any Format To fit on CD-R

Hello, I have been searching and searching for software that will convert any format video to some format that will play on CD-R (700mb). Right now I have a few MP4 videos ranging in different sizes that I want to be able to convert to a format like .avi and compress so it fits on a CD-R but in the future possible convert .flv or whatever format will play in a DVD player.

Possible freeware if anyone knows of some.

Anyone, throw me a bone..... possibly a hint on a new search? How about just a stand alone software that can compress the .avi to fit on a Cd-R 700mb.

Avidemux can handle a number of formats.
The video codec can be configured to set the video to a particular size (but that doesn't include the audio, so that might mean knocking it back to 600MB).
If you plan on playing the disk on a standalone DivX player, bear in mind that the maximum width is 720 - so you might have to use one of the video filters to resize it.
Final note;setting a fixed size for the video means it has to make two passes - that takes more time.

I converted a 100 minute movie using StaxRip instead of AviDemux.
The two-pass method for a 700MB nominal size took thirty minutes and the result, although it wouldn't do for a fifty inch screen, is pretty good.
Here's a short action sequence which is where any defects would be expected to show.
