I have a movie that has 2 separate avi files. How do I combine them so I can burn them to a DVD?

Run AviDemux.
Click File > Open and select the first file - it loads.
Click File > Append and select the second file - it loads.
Click File > Save > Save Video and give the joined file a name, eg Joined.avi (remember to add the .avi to the name)

I've tried to run AviDemux 3 times and it keeps freezing my computer. Any suggestions?

AviMux_Gui works great and is free, ignore that is discontinued: http://www.alexander-noe.com/video/amg/ Load first avi, add second by right clicking first avi, highlight both by dragging mouse over both, select audio that appears below and select start at bottom right, only takes a minute, may meed compatability mode for W7 but been using for years.

arrrrgh.. xillisoft.. malware mitherware spammers friend.. like anything roxio.. AVOID IF YOU LIKE BURNING ANYTHING!!!!

here is what you NEED to know.. to join any avi files they MUST be same format (which means pixels/framerate/codec.. etc)

not sure why avidemux is causing freezing.. it doesn't for me .. not even on a celeron 560 with 256 ram!!.. you may have codec issues

there are a few other free and simple tools.. this one does the job.. used it for a while, but you STILL need to run the file through avidemux (or some other video file handler) afterwards to make sure the index is ok and that the streams have stayed in sync

There are tons of softwares out there and couple of free ones too which can keep the quality. TMPEnc.net is one of them and also AVS4you does an excellent job in combaining not just .avi files but lot other formats as well.

Also in Windows 7 and Vista, instead of using the windows movie maker you could use the Windows 7 DVD Maker and add in any video format files and it'll automatically convert and burn a DVD image (with AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders). You get the same quality.
