Hi all. I have an .mpg that I'm trying to convert to .mp4 (h264 codec) using Super build 44. The .mpg is 1.4Gb with a bit rate of around 4kbps, and the h264 is set to 1248kbps, but the output always ends up being 1.1Gb with a bite rate of 3300kbps. Why does it not encode at 1248kbps? I'm sure I had it working the first time I encoded with h264, but that was a different file, although still an .mpg I think. Using the DivXcodec seems to work correctly. I've installed and reinstalled several times. Also installed a Klite pack for the h264 codec thinking maybe something is wrong there. Same thing. Then restored my OS to a backup image to start fresh, installed Super and it still does the same thing.
I also have Pinnacle Studio14 but my output files have audio stutters, others have the same problem, so I was trying Super since what I'm doing is just conversion, with an occasional stitching of multiple files.

Ok I think a found the issue. When I select mp4 as the output container, it uses FFmpeg to encode. When I select avi as the container I can use either FFmpeg or MEncoder. FFmpeg still results in big file, but if I use MEncoder, the bit rate and file size are correct. So that is figured out. Anyone know why that might be?
So this brings me to problem 2. When I select avi as the container, I get a popup saying AAC audio in an avi can only be played by certain players. And indeed, WMP does not play the audio now, whereas it did when the output container was mp4. So...what are your thoughts on staying with the AC3 format of the original file (just smaller bitrate) or using mp3? Given the same bitrate? Also will the new k-lite pack enable WMP to play AAC audio in an avi container? I don't have it installed after I reloaded the system image.
