Hi, I was wondering what the best program to convert a .vob file to an .avi file is? I tried AutoGK, but my resulting .avi was only about 68% of the original quality. Any way to either make it so I lose no quality with AutoGK, or is there a better converter for this? A program that and queue jobs would be ideal.
Would you settle for mp4 or mkv then vidcoder or handbrake,vidcoder is an offshoot of handbrake & it allows setting final output size,there's presets start off with normal in either vc or hb then fine tune to your liking in settings window
Uses a couple of free programs but will do the job with excellent quality. Add vobs to Any Video Converter and set various parameters (Video Files>avi on right top) using x264 and more (batch converts and I believe paid version merges, greyed out in free), quite fast. Use AviMux-Gui to combine avi, only takes a minute. Both work under W7, may need Compatability Mode for AviMux-Gui
how do I use x264 when converting to avi from dvd for use on a usb stick through tv,the picture is pixelated on lcd but not plasma I use autokg I am unsure of the autokg settings to use like ess chipset etc
I guess you could also try audials moviebox, I know it has a bunch of supported video file formats (you can check out this link for exact how to steps on how to convert to avi: audials.com/en/s/converter_conversion/video/convert_mkv_to_avi, it should work in the same way for vob files as it does for mkv I suppose)

As for autogk it doesn't support x264 if it did you would see it as a setting under advanced,use staxrip it'll take a bit of learning however it does provide good results,as for pixelation that is directly related to size of the video & bitrate,rule of thumb the smaller you make the video the more pixelated it will appear when viewing on a large screen,you may be able to compensate by using soften on the tv instead of sharp or use a smaller screen,better still increase the file size to 2gb-3gb,it may take up more space but it will give better viewing results
