Basically I'd like game that is very simplistic but still fun and slightly challenging, I don't really want a kid's type of game.
I like the idea of Fallout, Mass Effect, Oblivion but find they move to slow and get to fiddly and in depth requiring hours of gameplay to get to the good stuff.. Not really keen on games that involve too many cutscenes, too deep a story and have the classic 'I'm a geek for playing this' feel.
I'm not a big fan of FPS due to them requiring too many hours of practice to be able to compete on Live, and I'm not too good at them anyway. I find single player FPS unrewarding, when I play games I like to either compete or just have fun - last game I played like that which I enjoyed was GTA: VC.
I want something fast that throws you into the action quickly with minimal downtime between missions (short cutscenes and to the point), and has moments where you think to yourself 'that was sick'.
My favourite games from the past were THPS, Syphon Filter 1 and GTA:VC. I also loved the original NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 on PS2. I also dig the MX games, Project Gotham and Most Wanted.
I don't really get into Forza because it's too techy for me and I'm not a fan of simulation racing games. I love racing games and I own a Supra in real life which I can drive well but I need to be in the car and 'feel' what's going on, hence my dismal performances in sim racing games.
Basically just want something action packed and fast pace, but as I said no FPS. The shooters I can live with and usually enjoy have auto aim so maybe something like that.
My fave genres would be racing and sports but sometimes I want a nice relaxing adventure game that I can get into and enjoy 'wow' factors of cool shit, without it being too involved and too much mucking around away from the action.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I have the perfect set of games for you but your going to need a ps3 or at least a ps2. All of the God of War games would fit you. Pick them up and off you go and very rewarding. For the Xbox 360 I would suggest a game like Stranglehold which is a FPS but feels totally different from Call of Duty and the good thing is it is cheap cause it is a few years old. The guy above me suggested Red Dead and GTA IV? Yeah you don't have to invest too much time in those games! Geez I think we all have a year of our lives to give to a game. Dead Island is fun for the new games and if your into zombies pick up Left for Dead 1 and 2. Other than that if you want a wow factor game that last for a little bit I would suggest Split Second cause it has some cool stuff in it. Gunstringer for Kinect is cool as well as Child of Eden (that game is top notch and addictive!). Good luck on your game search and let us know what you tried.
P.S.- If you like games like GTA IV then give L.A. Noire a try. It will make you use your noggin.

Really, you needed a year practise for GTA IV or RDR?
