I was given an XBOX 360 console , I was told it has a virus.
I don't have any cables, games or controllers for it yet.
My questions are =
1)Do I need to buy a new hard drive?
2)Can my old hard drive be cleaned out?
3)Do XBOX virus's damage more than the HARD DRIVE?
4)I have seen refurbished hard drives on ebay are they worth buying?
5)After installing a new hard drive will the console be ready to use?

Thanks

Marty

There is no virus for xbox 360s. An Xbox 360 only runs signed code, that means a virus is nearly impossible.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

This is good news/ because I was told it had a virus when it was given to me.

So what I'll need to do is borrow the cords ect.., game and controller to see if it works
and/ or what doesn't work. thanks for the fast reply.

Thank you 4 your reply !
Here is what I found out, the previous owner used a curse word as a pass word.
So XBOX or Microsoft disabled it from being able to connect to the internet.
Have you ever heard of this and do you know if they would enable it again?
I was told it does still play games just not internet capable.

Because of a curse word as a password? I highly doubt that. There are some reasons to get banned from Xbox Live, maybe the most common is because of playing backups and getting caught. For a curse word as password they would maybe suspend the account, but not the console. Also normally passwords are stored encrypted (that's actually the reason why you can only reset your password and not receive it again in case you lose it), so not even MS knows what passwords are used. My advice would be to use the console for offline play, it is theoretically possible to unban it, but you need a clean nand and hardware of about the price of a new console for that (not to forget some serious soldering skills).
