Really simple question here, can I replace the broken disc drive of my Xbox with one of a different brand? I don't know if the different brands of drives come with different motherboards or if their is preloaded software to prevent someone from changing the make of the drive with another one or really anything that could conflict. So if you know (key word is KNOW, no offence but saying 'Well it sounds like it would work' or 'probably not but I've never done it before' really holds no water in my mind, I want definitive statements from people) than please give me a quick hand here and it would be greatly appreciated, I would just try it but I don't want to damage my Xbox (if it would even damage it, I don't really know if it would or not).
P.S. I am not trying to mod or hack my Xbox, I don't want a Jtag or softmod or play homebrew or burned games, I just want it to work right now. I can read discs on my current drive but it freezes every 15 minutes or so and I don't want to lower the resistance to the diode much more (I am at 3.6kOhms, and the lowest I've been told to go is 3.2) so I just want to have a backup drive if mine goes out. Right now I got a ToshibaSamsung and I want to replace it with a HitachiLG drive.
P.S.S. If I can't switch out the drives completely, can I just switch out the diodes from the drives? Maybe not even the whole casing around the diode but just the diode itself?
Thanks!
Edit: I accidentally posted this twice, so mods feel free to delete one of them and I'll be sure to be more careful in the future!
